About the Series

Each summer, we present a thoughtfully-curated program of new and noteworthy independent film from around the world; a collection of films with “island spirit” that reflect this community’s love of nature, whimsy, individuality, music, and the arts. Exhibited in the great outdoors, on the shores of Lake Superior, our film series offers residents and visitors a unique lineup of screenings in an extraordinary setting. We take pride in creating a family-friendly event that attracts film lovers of all ages.  Founded in 2012, the Madeline Island Summer Film Series is a proud affiliate of the La Pointe Center for the Arts.

Mary O'Brien, Curator

Mary has spent summers on Madeline Island all of her life; a family tradition that began with her great-great grandfather in 1857.  She now lives across the water in Bayfield, Wisconsin and works as Development Director at Bayfield Regional Conservancy.  This film series was created with friends as a labor of love; a celebration of our hearts' true home.
